Ang Pupuno Sa Akin by the Bukas Palad Music Ministry
You’d mistake it as a love song at first. But then again, it IS a love song… for the Lord. :) this is one of my favorite BP songs, indeed. It’s very nice to listen to this kind of music during the Lenten season.
Madama man ang ligaya, matanggap man ang karangalan,
Maangkin man yaman at kalayaan, nasa’kin man ang lahat, tila may kulang pa.
Maabot man ang tagumpay, makamtan man mga parangal,
Magbago man ang kapalaran, mawala man ang karangyaan,

Nowadays, we hear a lot of people craving for Bon Chon Chicken, Chicken Charlie, and Manang’s Fried Chicken. What’s so special about them anyway? Vino and I just had to find out ;) good thing all three have branches in Katipunan.
Described as the Best Chicken in America, Bon Chon boasts of its Korean-style fried chicken that is fried twice. This way, the skin becomes crunchier and less greasy because double-frying drains out all the fat. Among the three, Bon Chon is really my personal favorite because of its distinct taste. Bon Chon chicken comes in two sauces (soy garlic and hot and spicy). Regardless which of the two sauces you choose, I’m pretty much sure you are going to like it. We tried ordering the Medium Sized-Chicken Combo B that comes with 3 pcs of drumsticks, and 6 pcs of wings. We requested to have both the soy garlic sauce and the hot and spicy sauce. Both flavors are so good, I really can’t decide which sauce I like better. The chicken was crunchy and flavorful on the outside, and soft and tender on the inside. 2 thumbs up! If I were to rate Bon Chon, i’d give it an 8.5/10 rating. Because of Bon Chon, our addiction to Korean-style fried chicken began. As for the price, Bon Chon is a bit more expensive than Chicken Charlie and Manang’s Fried Chicken. But, I must say that it’s really worth it. To give you an idea of its price range, here is an image of their menu:

Now let’s talk about Chicken Charlie. Chicken Charlie is always being compared with Bon Chon Chicken. Why? Because they have the same Korean-style of double-fried chicken. Chicken Charlie is really the first double-fried chicken brand here in Manila. It started as a small family enterprise that just grew by word of mouth. Because of its satisfying crunch and taste, a lot of people began raving about it. Vino and I ate at Chicken Charlie after one of our events with BP. We were so tired and hungry, we decided to order 2 Charlie bowls and 8 pcs of chicken wings. The Charlie bowl comes with crunchy chicken strips brushed with soy-garlic sauce, and is served with rice. And since our Charlie bowls already came with the soy-garlic sauce, we requested to have the hot sweet sauce for our chicken wings. Just like with Bon Chon Chicken, I really couldn’t decide which sauce I like better. Both flavors tasted so good, I kept on eating the chicken alternately. The sauces are so flavorful, we couldn’t have eaten the chicken without rice. Chicken Charlie has the same satisfying crunch and tenderness as Bon Chon’s. If I were to rate it, I would give it an 8/10 (a small notch lower than Bon Chon—just because Bon Chon’s hot and spicy flavor is sweeter than Chicken Charlie’s hot sweet sauce). But aside from that minor detail, Bon Chon and Chicken Charlie are pretty much the same for me. :)) There are other food items in Chicken Charlie’s menu that I really want to try out soon. The cheesestick dynamite, potato wedges, and yam fries look very interesting. As for the price, Chicken Charlie is not that expensive, actually. Given that we’ve eaten that much, we only had to pay Php 315. Here is an image of their sample menu:

Next up is Manang’s Fried Chicken—Ang Bagong Fried Chicken ng Pinoy. Now we have our own Pinoy version of the Korean-style fried chicken. Same as Chicken Charlie’s, Manang’s fried chicken started in humble beginnings. It’s owner, Jill Borja, had a trusted househelp—Manang—who created this fried chicken at their home with its distinct filipino sauce. Over time, Jill’s friends would come raving about Manang’s chicken as they visited her in their house. On 2010, Jill finally decided to open a stall to sell Manang’s chicken in Manila, where she herself manned the booth. From then on, Manang’s chicken has become a big hit and is now often being compared to Bon Chon and Chicken Charlie. Manang’s fried chicken comes in 3 flavors (original, mild, hot and spicy). Vino and I both ordered the 2 pc chicken with rice. I got the original flavored chicken, while Vino preferred going for the hot and spicy. For me, Manang’s chicken also tasted good, but I wasn’t that much impressed because I had really high expectations, since it was often being compared to its 2 other competitors. I wanted to experience the unique crisp that comes with double-fried chicken. And since their chicken actually comes with more sauce, it is somehow stickier with it’s skin being less crispy than Bon Chon’s and Chicken Charlie’s. I would give Manang’s a 7/10 rating because of this. While I may have my own personal biases towards Bon Chon Chicken and Chicken Charlie, I would still recommend trying out Manang’s Chicken because of its unique filipino-style taste. Also, since Manang’s is slowly expanding to be a fast-food enterprise, you might want to try out some of the other food items that they’ve introduced in their menu like the cheesy spaghetti, the fried pancit, or the garlic pork bagnet. Okay. So Vino and I normally watch movies almost twice every month. Of all the movies we’ve seen, I would have to say that Real Steel is definitely one of the best. :) we loved the story line. We loved the robots. We loved pretty much everything :)) No wonder it got high ratings! Here are some images from the film:
